Latest Spore Count results

May 7, 2021

Grass samples tested this week from the MVS Monitor Farms have shown the following:
  • Hinuera Monitor Paddocks –  1,600 spores/gram
  • Matamata Monitor Paddocks –  18,000 spores/gram
  • Te Poi Monitor Paddocks – no samples tested this week
  • Tirau Monitor Paddocks –  5,000 spores/gram
  • Walton Monitor Paddocks – no samples tested this week

As expected, spore counts are trending downwards and yet they continue to surprise. As well as monitor farms, we also process samples from non monitor farms, one of which returned counts of nearly 85,000!

This week we have also seen a severe acute case of facial Eczema which results in anemia (low red blood cells) and severe liver damage, all this with no signs of facial eczema on the skin.

Taking these results into account we recommend you continue supplementing with zinc unless you have individual spore counts for your farm that indicate risk is low.

.Remember that spore counts vary from farm to farm and the only way to know your risk to check your grass for spores.
